Outlook 2003 SP2 crashes when switching between mailboxes after installing SourceOne Offline Access

Hi All

we are presently at the later stages of migrating from EmailXtender to SourceOne. We are also in the process of migrating our desktops from Win XP with Outlook 2003 SP2 to Win 7 with Outlook 2010. All Win 7 upgraded computers also have the SourceOne Offline Access plug-in to resolve shortcuts and they use the web search for searches. Our XP computers which use Outlook 2003 still use the EX plug-in (EmailXtender_4.81.1459) to resolve shortcuts and they also use the web search for searches. Our present version of SourceOne is "Version: 6.6.1.1315". This configuration works fine and as we migrate computers to Win7 then they are also receiving the SourceOne Offline Access plug-in at the same time.

We are working with a 3rd party implementation company and due to a number of reasons they have advised us that we need to upgrade our Win XP computers to the SourceOne Offline Access plug-in. This obviously involves uninstalling the existing EX plug-in and installing the SourceOne Offline Access plug-in, which again is not a problem.

The problem is that our Win XP users on Outlook 2003 which now have the SourceOne Offline Access plug-in installed, are experiencing problems with Outlook crashing when they switch between mapped mailboxes. More specifically it seems to be when a user switches to the Inbox of a mapped mailbox then back to their own mailbox Inbox. This seems to happen every time when a user switches back to their own mailbox Inbox, but uses the "Favorite Folders" section of Outlook to select their Inbox.

We will obviously take this up with the 3rd party that we are working with but any additional help would be much appreciated and I can supply more details if requested.

Hi Steve,

Welcome to the group!

Regarding your situation, you will need to upgrade your Offline Access client to version 6.6.2 or later in order to obtain support for Outlook 2010.  In Outlook 2010, Microsoft dropped support of a technology we used to implement OA forcing us to develop a new solution.  The end result is that when our customers upgrade to Outlook 2010, then they also need to upgrade OA.

I would also recommend that you obtain our latest kit versioned 6.7.2 even for your Outlook 2003 customer.  We support Outlook 2003, 2007, and 2010 starting with version 6.6.2, but I recommend 6.7.2 just so you can obtain the latest fixes as well.

After you upgrade, if you still have the same issue then I would recommend opening a support ticket so that we can determine the cause of the issue.

Thanks,

Peter Spooner

Hi Steve

thanks for your prompt reply.

I'm sorry but I stated the wrong version of SourceOne Offline Access client that we are using.

The version that we are using is actually "Offline Access 6.62.1030" and it is this version that we are experiencing issues with on Outlook 2003 clients. I have downloaded and installed the latest version "Offline Access version 6..72.0017" but this is also crashing Outlook 2003 when switching between mailboxes. However I have gone back a version to "Offline Access version 6.62.1019" and this seems to have fixed the issue.

We need to deploy the Offline Access to all Outlook 2003 clients ASAP, as it is holding up our Exchange 2003 to 2010 migration (I can explain in more detail if requested); so we will probably deploy the "Offline Access version 6.62.1019" to Outlook 2003 clients and a more up to date version to our Outlook 2010 clients.

Once again Steve thanks for your response and if you have any further comments I'd be pleased to hear them.

Cheers Ste
