2 active partitions

I am trying to reinstall xp using a new harddrive in a dimension 3000. I messed up during the reinstall and loaded the wrong partition. I had 3 partitions on the drive: C: 1.8g  Unpartitioned space 112g    and another unpartitioned space 8meg. I wanted to delete the C: partition and load the OS on the unpartitioned space and expected that to be C:    I don't know if that is right or wrong. Anyways, I now have C: loaded with XP and a new F: loaded with XP and when I boot it is like a dual boot system and I have to choose which drive to load on. I want to delete C: and keep F: i guess. How can I get this done, I'm going to be bald soon from pulling my hair out on this.

Thanks

If it was a New drive, why were there partitions on it? New drives don't have these.

You need to start over and delete C and F partitions during XP setup, then you will have a large unpartitioned space, choose this unpartitioned space to install xp on.

http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sg_clean.asp  nice guide here, but may not have the specific instructions I provided for deletion of C,F and installing on unpartitioned space, but is a nice tutorial.

Read this on how to install drivers in the proper order, after XP is installed.

LOL!! Great story.

Ok, my advice would be to start over. It should be easy now that you've got two practice rounds under your belt.

What you need to do from the beginning is to delete all existing partitions. If you follow this guide (written by our late, great forum member, Denny Denham), and most importantly follow his link to Raul Thurrott's guide, you'll see exactly how to do this.

Finally, unless you love reinstalling Windows, let me suggest you purchase imaging software, such as Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image, which will allow you to make a backup of your new installation and save you many hours later.

Good luck!

Thanks guys............I was pulling my hair out, I messed up and at first It wold not let me delete C: even though I booted in D:.....It is working now, I deleted all 3 partitions and I am now formatting 1 partition and will continue loading the OS. All is well. With all this experience running reinstall I should be an old pro............
Thanks

Good job, Tuna! You'll be an expert before you know it.

Either that or bald like me. :)
