2nd Drive Use

I just got a XPS 720 with dual 250 gb hard drives. What do I have to do to store pictures and videos there.  Do I have to install the same programs on each drive or is there a program available for saving the files to a 2nd drive.  Presently, Sony Vegas won't let me save to a second drive. Thanks!

Do you have a RAID configuration? If not, then you should be able to give each drive one or more drive letters and then you can save to each drive. For example, the primary could be C: and the secondary could be D:. You don't need to do anything else.

If you have RAID, then those two drives are operating as a single Windows drive (either 500G or 250G) and you can't choose which to store data on.

You certainly do not need to install programs more than once.

I tried saving to the drive, but was unsuccessful.  I looked it up in my computer and it is named as d: drive Datapart1.  No clue why it wouldn't save there.

If you can copy files with Windows Explorer, than it is an application issue.

No, you can put applications on any drive you choose (some applications may have bugs and not work properly if you don't put them in there default location, but that is not how they are supposed to work). You can put your data on any drive you choose.

Do I have to put the application on the second drive and use it there?  That was going to be my next effort.

I can save word documents to the second drive.  I just can't save the movies I am working on to the second drive.

That is probably a flaw with the application then. I use more than one drive all the time. I have yet to find any issue with storing data on the second drive.

OK. Thanks for your help. I'll try the software manufacturer.
