If you adding this drive as a second drive, simply use disk management to partition and format it. If you want to install the oS onto the new drive, the best approach is to remove the other drive, install XP, then put the other drive back in. Do you know the trick for installing your RAID drivers before you start the XP installation process?

Thanks i found my problem. I had to go into Bios and enable the second drive.
I'm going to partition and format. It has Vista on it plus other programs etc. I will take what i need
and then format. Thanks

Like you I just installed an additional HD.  When I ran the manafactures software to configure the drive, it would not configure as a boot drive without copying all the files on the current boot drive to the new drive.  That's not what I want.  I want to install Win XP on the clean new drive and then make it my "C" drive.  I would then re-format the old drive and use it for data only. My question is how did you configure the new drive as a boot drive?

Take the old drive out and connect the new one as primary. Install, then plug the old drive back in.
