Acoustics Mode setting question

Dell Dimension 8300,Pentium 4 2.8 GHz, 1 GB Memory, 16X DVD-Rom Drive and 4XDVD+R/RW CD-RW Combination Drive. OS - Windows XP SP1, 64 MB DDR Nvidia GeForce4 MX 420 with TV out, 18" Flat Panel monitor

I still have the original BIOS that came with my system (A01) purchased in 5/03.  I was going through the process of writing down all my settings in preparation for when ( if ever) I decide to update my BIOS in preparation for SP2.  I noticed in the "IDE Hard Drive Acoustics Mode" setting that mine is set to "Bypass"  On clicking F1 for help, I read the following:

“When set to Bypass, system will not test or change the mode. When  set to Quiet, drive will operate in it’s quietest setting.  When set to Suggested, drive will operate in the  Manufacturers suggested acoustic level – between Quiet and Performance modes. When set to Performance, drive will operate normally.  Any setting other than Performance may cause a loss in Performance.”

I was wondering what others with my specs have for their settings.  It sounds as though mine should be set to Performance.  I have never changed it from it's original setting.

Most people leave it at default, you get the best of both worlds and if it ain't broke don't fix it. As far as your bios just go up to product support, enter your service tag #, use the drop down list to see if there are any updates for your bios, just dl and follow the instructions for installation.
