adding a 2nd hard drive

I have a XPS 700, I took the cover off this morning to see who made the hard drive I have discovered that it is made by Seagate and it's a Barracuda 7200.9 SATA 250-GB Hard Drive part code ST3250824AS do I need to get the same identical drive again for a RAID configuration or can it be any SATA 250GB drive?

Any drive of the same size.

If you plan on setting up RAID 1 best to get the same model #.   Worst case make sure it bigger.   A 250 GB drive from a another vendor may be smaller and you never be able to Migrate to RAID 1 from your current drive.

Not sure about RAID 0 but may have same issues.

how can I get a bigger drive? I would miss the rest of the drive, for example if I get 300 GB drive then I make this drive into a RAID 1 I would miss the extra 50GB my hard drive at the moment is 250! I was planning to get the same drive as I have at the moment,

I understand that the extra space can be used for Non RAID partition.  But your right buy the same size and make/model #.   That is what I done twice.   Upgraded my XPS gen 2 to RAID after receiving it, and the same with the XPS 410.
