Adding a second hard drive

I am trying to add a second HD to my Dimension 4400.  When I put the jumpers in the prospective settings and hook up the cord and power, I turn the computer on and get a S.M.A.R.T. error.  I have tried this with three hard drives as secondary.  I have purchased a brand new primary drive and still I get the error.  However, when i remove the second HD the error does not appear.  Is there something I am missing??:smileyindifferent:

If you are installing a new drive as your primary (boot) drive, do not install any other drive with it until you install Windows and drivers. After everything is installed, then add the other drive. As with any drive installation, whenever you change anything, always boot into system setup to set the drive configuration, auto or off, for the drive setup you have.
