Application Error & Diagnostic Test Error Code

What does this mean.  I would like for you guys to fill me in on what's going on please.

1. The following has appeared twice:
iexplore.exe. Application Error
The instruction at "OxO16f3e8d" reference memory at "OxO16f3e8D"
The memory could not be read.
Click OK to terminate the program.

2.  I ran a Diagnostic Test on XPS 400 and the following appeared.
ERROR CODE - 0F00:136C
MSF:  IDE device failed.  Blank media or no media is present in optical drive.  Test requires media with digital datal  (Resource CD, Installation CD)
My computer is less than a year old. Do I need to uninstall and reinstall the Resource CD and the Installation CD?

3.  The following appeared yesterday....but it has not appeared today.
{Some components of Active Shield are either missing or might not have been installed properly.}
Yesterday I noticed my AntiVirus WAS NOT protecting me.  Today it IS protecting me.
The AntiVirus is suppose to automatically update.  Do you think it replaced the components of
Active Shield that were missing or might not have been installed properly.   Why were they missing yesterday?    Is it because of the above ERRORs or could it have been the bad weather on Wednesday.

Do I need to call India?

Thank you.

Just curious, are you using IE7 (the new explorer which will auto update from windows update) and Norton?

If you are, Norton and IE7 do not get along.  You have 2 choices if you are:

1 Go to control panel/add remove programs and remove IE 7. This will take you back to IE 6.

2  Uninstall Norton and use AVG.  AVG is free and works great.

Personally, I'd do both anyway as I think IE 7 will work better with Vista and AVG gets along better with all programs than Norton.

I'll second the AVG route, (I have a network version (paid for :)). You may also want to also consider Lavasoft's AdWatch and Ad-aware with AVG. They have a free version also.  I'm not going to install IE 7.0 until the next service pack.

Read the message again.  "... no media is present in optical drive.  Test requires media with digital data".

Says nothing about installing or uninstalling.  It simply says that you ran a test of your DVD/CD drive, and had no CD in the drive, which is required to test it, so it failed.  In other words, it's a non-issue.

Thank you for replying.

I have Windows automatic update.   I saw that Windows attempted to install IE7 last Sunday night but showed attempt was cancelled.   Perhaps they will try again or I will myself if you think it is better than what we have.    I have McAvee right now...don't know if it's compatible with IE7 or not.  I will look into AVG & Vista.

Rick, I did reread the Error Code and understand what it said now that you have explained it
to me.  Next time I will put in a CD before Diag.Test.  I'm saving your Website.

Thank you again.
