BCWIPED Drive Problems

Sometimes I'm too smart. Selling Inspiron 4000, so wiped drive with "bcwipepd"

Now it won't let me load XP Pro ??  I get a seek failure drive 0 and nothing else. The CD won't even reconized XP disk?

But, when  I Tried to Load Windows ME, it starts fire, I abort the ME installation as I don't want on my system.

I ran the Dell extended diagnostic and hard disk checks out fine.

Any help would be appreicated.  BTW what is a good third party software for low level formating, particationing and hard disk checking.

Sometimes "wipers" leave the Disk in a condition that the only thing which will work on it at first is DOS/Fdisk and Format FAT32 using a W98 or W-Me Boot Disk. Once you have done this, you then delete the Partition and the format goes with it, but it leaves the surface of the disk in a more receptive condition. I ran into this problem over 2 years ago when i first tried to install a Suspend -to-Disk Partition on a wiped drive, done by using a Program called PZapper. The Suspend -to-Disk program for  that CPtV/ Drive refused to run until I had Fdisked and Formatted the drive and then deleted them. It then ran with no problem. Give it a try, it only costs you a bit of time. If you no longer have one of the boot disks, get one here  www.bootdisk.com  The boot disk can be used also for running < Scandisk/Autofix C: >  in DOS and < Scandisk C: > in DOS by typing/entering those commands at the A: prompt; the latter includes a complete Surface Scan if you want it.
