Hi Walt,

You need to figure out which component the DST failure is associated with. It's probably the hard drive or the DVD drive. When you go to run the diagnostics, look for the option to perform a CUSTOM test. Then test each of these components one at a time.

It may -- for a while.  Your luck will run out soon - so replace the drive as soon as possible.

Hi It is the Hard Drive giving me the problem. Even though the hard drive failed the DST Test & I'm getting scary messages telling me the hard drive is failing, I'm still able to boot up and then the computer & all my programs work just fine. How is it that the hard drive is failing tests but still operates normally? I dunno.

Hi,

I am a new dell user. Recently, my new dell laptop just froze and I had to force it shut. When I tried to restart it later, it gave me the message: "Missing Operating System". I ran diagnostic test. Everything else passed except Hard Drive which was indicating zero with error code 2000-0151. I tried through F12 to select boot from DVD/CD Drive with driver cd but it cannot open. I still receive the same message "Missing Operating System". What should I do? Is my laptop dead? I need to know while I am still on limited warranty.
