Apparently not.  There have been several very active threads, attempting to trace down the problem.

It has been suggested that the problem was the Dell Factory installs done by a few installers following faulty instructions or using faulty firmware/software.  Too bad Dell will not investigate which installers are responsible for most of the defective system builds.

repeat of what I just posted in an older thread:
Apparently, several hundred Dell customers have reported this problem.  I would also assume that several thousand Dell customers do not know that they have this problem, or believe that they do not have any problem after listening to someone misinform them that all Microsoft Window XP do this.  And it IS a problem.  Anyone stating this is not a problem has never built a computer and installed a Retail version of Windows XP.  This problem stretches across multiple Dell product lines, and not every Dell machine of any product lines has this problem.  This narrows it down to a few Dell personnel doing faulty system builds.

I Just Don't Know. But It Would Seem That Dell Would
Want To Fix This Problem For The People Who Trust
Them Enough To Buy A Computer From Them. But I Guess
Not.

May I join the 'Blinking Club'?

I have a two week old Dimension C521. Not only does it blink once a second it also emits a clicking/ticking noise from the hard drive when warm. Thanks to these posts I have learned a great deal. One of the staff at Dell has also been supportive. However the problem remains.

I am now pursuing the matter further. I'll let you know how I get on. Meantime: I did this to no avail:

* Defragmented the hard drive

* Ran a system diagnostic test - showed no problems

* Disassociated the CD automatic start up

* Installed XP

* Re-Installed Vista

* Another defragment

* Isolated all non essentials from start up

* Triple checked Bios booting

* Scoured every forum in the known Google universe. And probably much more........

Now had this been a new car that I'd bought with a particular problem I know what I'd be doing.

Sorry Dell, it is not good enough to sell products that have not been tested before sending out to the customer.

I am not a Happy Bunny. Two week old p.c. with most usage being given over to fault finding. :-(

Second thoughts in the early hours of the morning.

I am running XP on a four year old Toshiba laptop that has worked liked a donkey. Never, not once, ever a blink! So how come my C521 Dimension is blinking away if the identical OS is being used?

I find it peculiar or intriguing that the flashing or blinking is doing so at precisely one second intervals.

Is it really the OS or Dell's components but nobody wants to speak up? Maybe somebody likes having blinking or flashing lights and constant hd activity. Not I.

Boy,  Tarantella,
You were sure determined to stopp the problem, Give you credit for that.  Being computer illiterate, it seemed like you still didn't solve our problem, if it is.  I just got off from the chat with some Indian and quickley he says this is normal and ended the session.  never even got to voice my concern.  I have bought 3 Dells in the last 5 Years and lamost bought a Lenovo this time but I wanted to stay American Made and I see Most of this product is Chinese anyway.  Ill bet there Drive dont flash
