I have done quite a bit of troubleshooting on this one - but I still have no results. My computer is very similiar to yours, I have home premium. I had to replace my PLDS BD-RE DH-4B1S drive for mechanical failure. I had been playing BluRays for almost a year with no issues. Now those same BluRay disks will no longer play.
1. A hard shutdown is required - the soft shutdown will close Cyberlink, but the drive continues spinning.
2. Accessing the disk via Windows Explorer will also lock up the drive and necessitate a hard shutdown.
3. While the drive is locked up Internet Explorer will not engage ie the window comes up but it will not connect.
4. I have uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them to no avail.
I may have had the old firmware on the previous drive - the new drive had the updated firmware - I cannot verify this as Dell has the old drive back.
There may be DRM issues with Vista - but I think this is a weak possibility.
Resigning myself to the fact that the BluRay player sold with the Dell XPS 420 machine will no longer function as expected, (it will play DVDs just fine) but not most bluray disks, I have purchased a Sony BluRay internal disk player (not a burner) via Amazon for not too much money. I will install it in the free bay on the XPS 420.
When it gets here I will let you know if that solved my problems ie I can play my bluray library. If not then the Digital Rights Management (DRM) issue becomes a very very strong possibility and will end my use of bluray disk drives on computers for anything except burning for storage, ie not worth much.
Well, the Sony BDU-X10S internal drive was installed. Blu Rays played right away.
Therefore, I believe it to be a hardware problem related to the ability to play BD 2.0 or (BD Live) disks on the OEM PLDS BD-RE DH-4B1S drive provided by DELL.
Problem solved for me - good luck.
DELL: Feel free to chime in with why the PLDS BD-RE DH-4B1S does not work with new disks.
The PowerDVD application displays "Upgrade Now" option, but I am unable to download the patch.exe from the cyberlink site.
When I reported the issue at DELL support, I was told that software related issues are chargeable. I am really frustrated with the DELL telephone support who disconnects the call abruptly if they are not able to provide any solution.
I guess it could be due to Vista security settings. The help message shows DEP message.
BD-Live Version: 8.2.5202 is installed in my laptop.
Don't feal bed!! I have a week old 435MT and I can't play Blu-Ray discs on my Blu-Ray player either. Haven't been able to copy DVD's yet either. And the fools they call tech support??A 5yr old knows more than those idiots. At least 3hrs on phone and no resolution yet.
When bluray would not play with error 0102 and says in clone span mode switch to expanded mode, graphic driver not up to date or HDCP handshake problems go to cyberlink 9.5 program and open as adminstrator. The blueray will play. Also the error kept saying i had vga second monitor on and i was hdmi to a samsung led hdtv all were hdcp compatable in bd advisor. The opening of cyberlink as ADMINISTATOR SOLVED ALL THESE PROBLEMS OF UPDATE PATCH AND JAVA UPDATES FOR 2013.

BTW: The Sony drive was quite reasonable.

I got a new Inspiron a month ago.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks
