If you want to confirm this then restart the system with the CD in the drive. You'll need to press F12 to get the one-off boot menu, use the up-and-down arrow keys to navigate to CD-ROM option then press enter on your keyboard.
The system will boot from the optical drive and you will then enter XP setup from which you can choose to cancel and exit setup.
