Hi,

There is an adapter on the pins of the old HDD. You have to move it to the new one.

Hi,

The new disk will be empty, you have to load the OS on to it. If you put the XP / 2000 CD in it, it will start the load.

Hi Chris, I have the exact same problem as the OP. C600. Original HDD was an IBM Travelstar 20GB IDE. I just bought a WD Scorpio 40GB EIDE drive. BIOS does not recognize it. Flashed BIOS to A23 (latest). Can you please tell me more about this adapter you speak of? Are you referring to a jumper? If so, there is no jumper on the original hdd. Any more info would be much apprecaited. Thanks.

Hi,

Look at both drives together. The bare drive has inividual pins poking out, the adapter pushes on, and has a connecter that wll engage the MBD. It will pull off, and has a block-out to fit the missing pin, so you cant get it wrong. There are also 4 pins the adapter doesnt go over, it is set as master without a jumper on these. You will see them beside the adapter on the old one.
