Can someone help PLEASE!!!

My dvd drive is a liteon ltd-163 and does not read DVD disks. The computer recognizes the driver
and no problems in device manager. When I double click in my computer a window appears and says that "Windows cannot read the disk, it is possible that the disk is damaged or is in another format that not recognized with windows". I uninstalled the drives, made changes in BIOS and nothing, the problem persists. What can be done?

Hi Pandagirl,

I am sorry but your subject title and message body of your post is somewhat confusing.
Your DVD-ROM will not read any type of blank media, CD or DVD or even a formated disc, so this will cover that issue.
The drive should be able to read standard CD`s and DVD and writeable CD & DVD media if properly closed.

So if we are to assume the drive is not reading discs it should, then lets try some additional steps:
Click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 15, articles 10 and 14; Section 20, article 3.
If the above does not help, then consider the Dell firmware update for your drive listed here:
Lite-on 163

Best Regards!

Hello Jeff and thanks for your support. My windows system is in spanish and the message says in a small window...windows cannot read the disk. It is possible that the disk is damaged or is in in a format not compatible with windows. Ir reads cds but no dvds. I changed ide cables, uninstalled drivers, no changes.

Hi Pandagirl,

I got your PM. So the drive will read standard CD`s but not DVD`s. Double check that you have the software disc for your decoding software. If Dell stayed true to form, it should be PowerDVD. Uninstalll and then reinstall PowerDVD, also check Cyberlinks web site for a possible update for your version.
If this does not help, then do try the Dell firmware.

Best Regards
