"Cannot complete the CD Writing Wizard"
I have no clue what's going wrong, but trying to burn a CD the past few times with Windows XP has generated that message, in addition to:
"There was an error in the writing process. The disc you have attempted to write may no longer be usable."
No indication of where the error occured, just that I lost another CD-R and there's nothing I can do about it. Awesome. Any ideas as to what may be causing this to happen would be greatly appreciated.
Relevant info:
- Dimension 8100, 1.7 GHz
- Windows XP Pro
- CD-RW drive in use: NEC NR-7800A
I have tried:
- using two types of CD-RW's, and one type of CD-R
- reinstalling Windows, but not doing a full reformat (it's getting to be time to do so, however)
- pleading with it
It reads CD-ROM's and audio CD's, but sometimes it hesitates to do so, and recognizes that I stuck something in the drive only after I take it out and put it back in.
So, I'm confused, befuddles, and so on and so forth. Thanks in advance for any info/help.
Tim

Do you have any other CD burning software such as Roxio Easy CD Creator 5, that comes with many Dells or Nero? If you do, try burning with one of the CD burning programs and see what happens.
If you have the Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 Basic that comes with many Dells, make sure you have the latest updates fro the Basic version from the Roxio site before trying to do a CD Burn. www.roxio.com

Easy CD Creator had been working fine in the past, but for some reason I had uninstalled it, and was trying to use Windows to burn instead. Note: I had been able to burn about 5 or 6 CD's about two weeks ago. Quite abruptly, I was no longer able to burn CD's after that.
I went back to Easy CD Creator Basic 5.0, and am still not able to burn. I got wise this time, and just tested instead of risking the loss of yet another CD. These are the errors I got:
E80041898: Write error - [03/0C/00]
E80041899: Write error - buffer underrun occurred - [06/C5/00]
E80041925: TrackWriter error - Command retry failed - [T7118]
The buffer underrun error puzzles me, since I have never had that happen since I have had the computer. Not only that, but it occurred at the very beginning of the "test"; the table of contents was written, then it appeared to have frozen up, and BAM! Error.
Could something be wrong with the write head of the drive?
Thanks in advance,
Tim
