can't write to cd on d drive

I can install with a cd, it wil  read a cd , but when I try to write to a cd on d drive it puts the files in a folder

then a balloon comes up, saying files waiting to be written to cd.  Click on it and it tells you cannot write to

cd, sourc and drive destination are the same.

this is what was on it.   HL-DT-ST DVD+RW GH 30N  then there was drives WDCWD 5000 AAKS-75AB2

and I'm not much of a fixer, more a user but I thought I would try this before talking to tech support.

If I go to my computer and right click on d there is no format, and there used to be.   The disk are brand new and blank

There are two main possibilities that I've come across (3 if you count the obvious that you need a CD-writer :emotion-5:)...

1) There's a problem with the CD-R where the CD isn't blank or it's incompatible and you need to use a fresh CD-R or

2) Some program (likely a download, but there are many possibilities) has caused an error in your writing software.

I've had a CD-R that was written to without my knowledge and I couldn't write to it (one time where the info didn't start writing, but the "tag" had been put on the CD so I couldn't write anything to it, even though it showed blank). I've had a CD-writer that for some strange reason wouldn't work with a certain brand of CD-Rs... not likely the case if you've written to this brand of CD-Rs before and it was a really rare instance I've only seen once. :emotion-5:

I've also had a program on my own computer that prevented me from writing to a CD (when I tried several times on different CD-Rs and CD-RWs). I don't write to CDs often, so it was months between writings and I have no idea which program it was that did it... I eventually formatted and reinstalled Windows ("Spring cleaning", if you will) and it went away. If you can find the offending program, uninstall it... if you can't find it, try reinstalling the writing program to see if it will overwrite the error.

If all else fails and you need to write to CD often enough, backup your info, format, and reinstall. It's a pain if you don't do it regularly, but it removes a multitude of problems that can also impact your speed and processing. Good luck!

Thanks, I'll try that.  Its just frustrating that it work fine a couple months ago and not it won't.

Another thing to check--make sure the cd drive is actually Drive D. On today's computers, drive D is the recovery portion of the C drive and the cd drive is Drive E or higher. You should always put your model computer and operating system in your posts. Open Windows Explorer to check the drive letter.

yeller1999,

Check the following: In My Computer, right-click the drive and select Properties.
Select the Recording tab.  Make sure there is a checkmark in the box next to
Enable CD recording on this drive.
