CD drawer opens/closes by itself

Question

My Dimension 8100 'upper' CD drawer opens/closes at it's own convenience, sometimes continuosly for seconds at a time for no apparent reason. I 've shut the system down, reloaded the software, but the problem still persists. In addition, the button that is used to open and close the drawer no longer works either, however, the drawer will still open/close on its own. I sure would appreciate hearing from someone who has had this same condition and what they did to correct the problem. Thank you

There have been cases of a virus causing this and since the button doesn't work, maybe it's stuck in.  Check the button to see if it is stuck and and if so, maybe you can get it loose.

Fireberd, thanks for the reply. I will give the "stuck button" a try.

As for the "intermittent" CD drawer (actually it is the DVD drawer...I am not

really that familiar with all the correct terms yet) I found that someone downloaded a Halloween "screen-saver", and one of the "sideshows" was the drawer going in and out (Gads---that is annoyning!!) The drawer now stays in, but the hand button is still an issue. So it looks like I'll be taking your advice and see what I can do. Thanks again!!

I have a  Dell Dimension 3000 and I also have a problem with the DVD drawer. It goes in and out all by itself. I am not even in the room when it happens. Would appreciate any help I can :smileysurprised:get. Thank you!
