I am bugging down a similar issue with a GX260 machine and the Samsung CDRW/DVD model SN-324F, firmware U203.

So far it looks like using CD-R disks eject without issue but CD-RW disks cause the eject process to fail, whether using the tray button or all the software, right click, select eject approaches.

Hello,

We had the same problem with several of our computers that we bought. The fix we found was actually a firmware upgrade on the Samsung CD-R/RW SW2525. This fixed the problem and was a simple solution.

The firmware rev is said to be the latest so the thinking by tech support is my burner is faulty. I don't know what that means for someone who has 100 units performing in the same or similar manner.

Yesterday the burner started working normally. After a burn the tray ejected and we will see what transpires Monday.

Just purchased Inspiron 5160, and cannot get CD to eject. Have to restart for it to eject. Why can't I ever get to chat with Dell tech?

We have a GX260 doing the same thing.

With the original Samsung DVD/CDRW drive we did do the firmware upgrade (T410). Still had issues ejecting CDRW media. Contacted Dell e-mail support (KMM9240979I21) and they sent a new/different DVD/CDRW drive. It still does the exact same thing with CDRW media. I haven't tried CDR media. Even if it does work fine with CDR media, that still doesn't solve the problem.

It's almost as if the drive is being shared. But it isn't, I've checked (and rechecked).

I have contacted Dell (again) on this issue. We'll see what they say (or do?)...

The problem with ejecting the CD has finally been solved.  After consulting with Dell technicians, I  learned that it was the fault of the part of the Sonic CD burner software that came with the computer. I was told to remove the DLA part of the software.  I did that, and the CD can now be ejected. I will always wonder why I wasn't informed of this when the computer was purchased.

Our's was running Roxio software.
I did some digging on the Roxio site and learned that if we completely un-installed the Roxio software, then do a custom install (omitting DirectCD). Reboot. Perform a second custom install and include DirectCD. Reboot. Then it started working correctly again.
