cd drive won't open
My cd-rom door, tray, whatever won't open. Last night the yellow light would not go off and the device wouldn't open. I turned off the computer and now the yellow light isn't on...but it still will not open. Am I looking at a hardware problem here? Like my computer is broken? Or could it just be a communication problem? I'm also having difficulty with my scanner/printer/fax scan light not turning off. This all occured at the same time. Also now when I reboot my computer, I get the Dell Screen first before it goes to windows. I'm running Windows XP, Service Pack 2. I'm not having any trouble with getting online or operating any programs. When I do reboot, there's a little window that pops up but it's up and gone before I can read it. (Yes, I have high speed internet).
Thank you,

Hi Stagemother,
Lets clear up a possible driver issue first, click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 15, article 1 & Section 20, article 3.
If the drive will still not open, it may be slightly jammed, same CD/RW link, Section 6-5, article 14.
If none of this helps, then I suggest you scan your system for virus and spyware. You will find help on this in the Special Interest- Virus Conference.
Best Regards
God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.

Hi Jeff/Predator
Thanks for the helpful reply. It was a driver issue and your information was invaluable and more important, understandable. I had done the virus/spyware/adware scan before I yelled "help"...so knew it wasn't that.
