Hi Semana,

We have seen in the past after something like this, the drivers for the unit have become corrupt and "usually" re-installing them solved the problem.

Click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 15, article 1; Section 20, article 3; Section 11, article 2.
Try the first one, then test the drive, if it does not help, move to the next article.

Also if you happen to have a packet writing program installed, Direct CD, InCD, DLA, then consider uninstalling it, try the drive, then re-install it.

Section 12, article 3 at the same CD/RW site is an article from Dell-Stephen for testing the drive, consider it, if it fails, then follow Stephens advice on contacting Dell support.

Best Regards

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.

I really appreciate your response, but I didn't get very far.

I scrolled down to Section 15 - http://www.the-predator.com/dell/detect.html

Then I chose Article 1 - http://www.the-predator.com/dell/detect.html#1-0-1

Then I couldn't find the next one - Section 20

I did a search for "reinstalling cd device drivers" in Dell but what I got applied to Windows 95 and ME.

I went through the Windows XP troubleshooting guide but non of the options applied to my problem. My CD will read and write and it will open when I use the software "Eject" option. It just won't open when I push the button....ooooops. Just as I was typing that I pushed the button and it opened fine. Then I put in a photo CD and it read fine. Then I pushed the button and it ejected just fine.

Good grief. These machines have a mind of their own.

Sorry I troubled you. I guess it's OK now.
