CD-R (drive D) and CD-RW (drive E) will only read certain disks
My CD-RW (HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8487B) and CD-R (HL-DT-ST CD-ROM GCR-8483B) drives seem to only read certain disks and not others. I have tried to save data files onto blank CD-R disks using my CD-RW drive also, and the disk is not reconized by the drive for some reason.

Can you be more specific about which discs can or cannot be read by which drive?
What type of CD-R are you using? What program are you using to burn files?

I am trying to write/save to a CD-R 700MB cd in my E: drive (HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8487B). I have tried the "drag and drop" (enabled DLA) into the E: drive and I have also tried using Sonic Digital Media LE v7.
This drive will not recognize a generic Staples CD-R 700MB recordable disc, Memorex CD-R 700MB recordable disc, or a Memorex Music CD-R 700MB recordable disc. However, it will recognize a TDK CD-R Music 700MB disc that has already been saved to.

TDK are a good brand. Stick with those. Other good brands are Taiyo Yuden, Maxell, Verbatim and Sony.
By the way, there is no difference between data and music CD-Rs, except that music CD-Rs have a sort of "tax" on them imposed by the RIAA.
