my computerdoes recognize the new rom but it still shows the old in device manager, leading me to believethe is a conflict between the two. sometimes that drive will read the disk other times it will not. I can us the dvd drive and any disk works. I think I need to get the old rom out of the device manager. the old one is not installed anymore. I can not delete/uninstall it.
In the Device Manager, you should be able to right-click on the drive and then select Uninstall. Then when you reboot it should read and install the new drive.
So you are showing two CD-ROMs; the old and the new? Consider clearing the NVRAM. I do not know the model of your computer so I cannot link to the procedure. Clearing the NVRAM should refresh the BIOS.
