CD/DVD disk not reading

the CDR/W on my Latitude D600 has stopped recognising data on disks.  XP recognises the drive is there, troubleshooting says its working properly, but it treats every disk loaded as blank.  Has been working fine for 6 months and stopped.

XP thinks it's  a TEAC CD-W224E   There is nothing on the device to verify this, only has Dell part number 6W027-A01

any thoughts?

I am having the same problem with our D600's and X300 at work. We have over 260 laptops and none of them are able to read DVD-R media although Dell says they should be able to. What media are you having trouble reading, DVD-R or DVD+R? I have been working with Dell to resolve this problem for 3 weeks now, and the conclusion we came to was faulty drives, but Dell is backing off their pledge to replace all our drives. The only drive that seems to read both media formats is the Sony. You may want to contact Dell about a replacement drive and specify Sony.
