Ok, you gave an important clue. It worked before and it's no longer working. Just need a few more details:
  • What program or procedure are you using to burn files?
  • What kind of discs?

Ok, I'm saving documents in MY DOCUMENTS.  I highlight what I want and SEND TO CD-RW (E:).

I'm using a Sony CD-RW.

When I am burning it on to the disk I'm using the E:/ drive and then when I go to read what is on the disk I'm putting it into the D:/ drive.  Hope this helps, if you need more info, let me know please.

I have sent the things that you wanted to know last night as far as the procedure and what type of CD I'm using.  If possible can you let me know as soon as possible or who I should get a hold of for this issue.  Thank you.

Open My Computer, then right click the CD-RW drive and select Properties. Tell me if you see a recording tab and/or a "DLA" tab, and what setting is checked on each tab.

There is a DLA tab and a Recording tab.

Under the DLA tab - "Enable DLA on drives" is checked.

Under the Recording tab - "Enable CD recording" is checked.

I tried your suggestion twice, but it still doesn't recognize the CD in the DVD-ROM drive.

Also, just tried to read a floppy disk and this doesn't work either, used to work, but now doesn't.  I think I have gremlins in my computer.

Disable DLA and try writing some files to a disc, then try to read it in your DVD-ROM drive.

Ok, let's try these standard troubleshooting steps, including resetting NVRAM. Hopefully, that will reset things.
