CD/DVD doesnt work

Question

When I place a cd in the drive the green light goes on but it never reads any disk.  I have tried several disks and nothing happens.  I have also tried to use the DVd and it doesnt work either.

My dell 2350 did the same thing about three months after I got it.I got a new one from dell after a lot of time on the phone with tech support. BTW mine was a samsung cd/rw

Yes,Dell sent me a hitachi cd/rw and its been working ever since.

My computer is a Dimension 2400 and there is not brand name for the cd and dvd drives.  It is about two years old.

the first drive is cd-r/rw sw-248f samsung and then samsung dvd-rom sd-616t
