CD/DVD error (code 39) --- doesn't work anymore

I have a "vostro 1400" laptop that is about 1/2 year old.

My CD/DVD driver doesn't seem to work anymore. It does not read any CD or DVD, and

here is the device status:

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

 It is an HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-T21NA Device

 version: 6.0.6000.16386

 My computer is a Windows vista 32-bit

 Can anyone help me, or give me any sort of suggestion? Should I uninstall the CD/DVD driver?
