CD/DVD PLAYER HELP

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get my NEC 6650A cd/dvd player to burn or play cd's. This unit worked just a couple of weeks ago, but now it only plays dvd and with out sound.

I tried the Dell patch but its for a different version. My laptop is a inspiron 9300. I think it must be a software issue.
