CD/DVD read program
Dimension 310,windows XP,Internet explorer 8.
Computer came with Sonic LE Dell version installed.
Been running fine for several years, but recently i have been having a issue with viewing the program discs..
I would like to be able to pick a read program other than the sonic one. How do i change the choices on my computer.
Thanks

Hi Daswede,
Sonic is a program for writing to CD and DVD media. So I'm not sure what you are trying to do. What kind of "program discs" are you trying to view? Are you talking about PDF files or something?

Thanks Osprey4
I burn with Sonic, and when i played back the DVD disc on both my CD read and CD/DVD drives a window i had
never seen before opened with a sonic program that i couldn't open because the licence had expired. I had never seen this new program before. .
In the past all i had to do was to insert a disc in either drive, and it would open up and play automatically. Drives seem to recognize the disc's.
The Disc's play fine in my two other DVD players in my home.

There are two issues here. First, every disc type can be configured to open with a certain program. This can be configured in your autoplay settings. Go to this site for instructions.
The second issue is which program you use to view DVDs. I assume you are referring to movie DVDs. Sonic may have included a program to watch DVDs, but you may also have PowerDVD, which is the most common program for watching DVDs. If you do not have PowerDVD, there is a free program for watching DVDs called VLC Media Player. I have a link to the download in Osprey's Toolbox (link below).

I tried the Autoplay selection fix and nothing changed. I burn CD/DVD's using Dell's installed Sonic recorder L E for Data, and Disc copies.
The window that opens when i insert a disc is ...Sonic Cine-player... I have never seen this before, and when i click on it to play it says i don't have a licence for it.
Before i try your suggestion to install a DVD program, would a un-install and re-install of "Sonic Cineplayer" and "Roxio Creator MyDVD Combo L E "software be advisable?

Download VLC Media Player. When you install it, you should see an option to set it as the default for various disc and files types. Select the setting to make this your default program for watching DVD movies. Then when you install a movie, it should open and play automatically.
Let me know if it does not work the way I explained.

If you need a burning program, try the free ImgBurn.

A friend found the issue and corrected it.
Turns out my subscription to my burning and playing software had expired.:emotion-6:
Will try your VLC Media player program.
Thanks for hanging in there:emotion-1:

Windows Media Player (at least the Vista and 7 versions) can burn discs.
I have Nero 7, but I find the bundled Windows app to be faster and easier.
