cdwr

i have a dimension 4400 with windows xp home   it has a lite-on ltr-24102m cdwr  when i put in a cd it blinks about 20 time then rejects the cd  does not matter what kind of cd it is  my computer shows the drive     is this the sign of a dead drive????

Hi Cats,

A few things to try; Click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 12, article 3 from Dell-Stephen on testing the drive.
Next, Section 11, article 2 ~ Dell`s Clearing the NVRAM.
Finally, click on the "Downloads" tab above, enter information for your system and follow the links, I believe Dell has a firmware update for this drive that addresses some read issues.

i ran the down load and the cdwr just blinks when i put ad disk in   not sure about taking the computer apart to set jumpers to clear the nvram   may just replace it with a dvdwr drive

You paid for the "Dell Support" consider giving them a call, no e-mail, and have Dell walk you through their trouble shooting steps.

the system is a little over 2 yr old and i only had the 1 yr warranty
