Code 39 Error Continues...

I have a Dell XPS 1210, using Windows XP Professional, with service pack.  The drive in question is TSST corp DVD+-RW TS-L632D.

 

I followed the previous steps mention, including "the resource cd" method, the drivers page on Dell's Support site, deleting the upper and lower filters, uninstalling the driver (scan for hardward updates) and following each method, it reappears in the Device Manager section with the yellow exclamation mark and the code 39.

 

Although, after using the F12 method,  it identified the dvd drive as "F:", the error code 39 will not go away.  I have scanned the computer for viruses; no viruses were found.

 

The drive passed all of the tests given after the "F12" method.

 

A lot of previous posts refer to Roxio Creator.  That program came with the computer, but I've never used it.

 

I have ran several searches on Yahoo and Google and come up with the same methods I have already tried.

 

I would like to find out about another alternative, short of reinstalling the entire operating system.  Any advice would be appreciated.

In the following URL, near the bottom of the page after the
picture, there is a utility file for the Filter Removal.  Run
it and  see if that makes a difference.  Make sure you restart
the computer, if it does not after running the utility file.

The reason for a Code 39 is usually a program removal, most
often burning software, but not limited to just that.

I've manually deleted lower and upper filters from the registry to no avail. I also ran the utility file for filter removal @ http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=106. In device manager I still get the same message drivers are corrupt or missing, code 39.  Are there any other possible fixes?

I tried the tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=106 site.

 

The Code 39 is still there.

 

Additionally, I purchased an external driver, the HP 1040e.  It has the same Code 39 as well.

 

Short of saving my information to usb drives and starting over from scratch, is there anything else I can do?

07JD11 and 2LStudent,


The Code 39 has always cleared after the Filters removal,
until lately.  A few Users are having a continuous Code 39.
This is now something new.  I did run across this article,
which covers the Filter removal failure.  Look it over,
particularly under Solution Step 3 and see if it helps .....

Thanks so much for the link http://barugon.wordpress.com/2008/08/01/windows-cannot-load-the-device-driver-for-this-hardware-the-driver-may-be-corrupted-or-missing-code-39/.  I downloaded a Microsoft command line program called DevCon, was able to run Devcon and found out I had a filter from Sony that showed up as "$sys$crater that was keeping Dvd/Cdrom from working. I was able to remove filter after downloading removal software from a Sony page.  Upon reboot Dvd/Cdrom was FINALLY working again, so thanks again for all the info and links.

Thanks a lot.  I could never manage to get the Devcon to work.  The command prompt either continuously disappeared or it would never allow me to use the Devcon commands.  Lastly, I decided to go ahead and click on the click for the "Sony" fix anyhow.  Afterwards, I rebooted my computer and my dvd drive is back on the "My Computer" screen and fully workable.
