Computer does not reconize the second processor.
Hoping someone could help in this problem while I wait for Dell help support to answer. Was advise by Dell Help Chat that my Hard Drive was bad. A contracted Dell service person installed a new Hard Drive that was pre-loaded by the factory. Soon there after I noticed that my computer was using only one processor.I have an Intel(R) Core(TM)2 6300 @1.86 HMz. Prior to the Hard Drive crash my computer was doing two units of work for SETI. Now it only does one unit of work.
Device Manager show two processors, Task manager shows only one processing. Any ideas?
Computer is an E520, Windows XP Media Center Edition, 1 GB RAM

omething doesn't seem right with your configuration. Another verifier for you:
Open Task Manager (right click on the task bar and click on Task Manager). Click on the Performance tab. Click on View (from the drop-down menu), then select CPU History, and make sure "One graph per CPU" is selected.
How many graphs do you see in CPU Usage History? If you only see one, then Windows is not using the second processor properly. If you see two, then the problem lies with BOINC on not Windows.
If you do see one, open the Windows Device Manager, and open the "Computer" tree. What does it show there? Does it read "ACPI Multiprocessor PC" or does it say something about Uniprocessor? If it shows Uniprocessor, then Windows was not installed properly and you are not using the multiprocessor Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL).
This is what I got from the SETI forum...I only show one graph and under the computer tree it shows ACPI Multiprocessor PC.

Multiple Core Option
Off On (On is hight lighted)
Off = disable multiple CPU Core technology
On= Enable Multiple CPU Core technology
The factory default setting is on.
My last reply to the Dell people is this:
This is my second answer to this message.
I hope this can help you solve this problem if it is part of it.
While looking at my computer screen I saw under My Recent Documents :DMI BOIS
Not knowing what this was I opened this document and this is what it shown and I have very little knowledge of some of the computer stuff:
c:\i386 COMPDATA DMIBIOS.htm
The software for IBM DMI BIOS Instrumtation might not be compatible with this version of Microsoft Windows and will be disabled during the upgrade. You should uninstall this software for a complete solution.
For more information about this software, or to obtain a version that runs this version of Microsoft Windows, visit manufacture's web site.
For more information about system management solutions, visit manufacture's web site.
For a list of software supported by this version of Microsoft Windows, see Microfosoft Windows XP compatibility list at http://www..microsoft.com.
Is it possible that the wrong version of Windows was installed on the new Hard Drive that was send to me and installed by your contracted service rep?
And that is how I stand on this problem.
Thank for you assistance in this matter.

1.I really am interest in buying another computer from Dell Computer Corporation and am even ready to submit information to be able to buy under my companies name instead of using my Dell Preferred account. However, my latest computer of the 13 computers and assorted computer accessories I have purchased in the past 5 or 6 years from Dell Corporation has some problems and seemingly I am being given the run around in the repair of this item. The tag number is xxxxxx. Therefore I must hold off in buying a new Dell computer until this problem is solved or taken care of. Really ...26 day to replace a Hard Drive on a computer and then have some computing problems with it.
To be honest I must say this is really the first big problem I had with Dell computers in the past five or six years, but if a problem of this sort can't be solved why deal with Dell anymore.

2.Rajat,
Thanking you for your reply, however, must I remind your that I am not a
computer type person, if there is such a thing. Prior to my Hard Drive
crashing in this computer which was brought from, Dell Computer Corporation,
I was able to computer two units of measurement from SETI at one time. I
must also tell you that I have five (5) other Dell computers that are doing
that right now that are equipped with a dual function CPU at 2.8 GHz and
only 512 of L2 cache are performing two (2) units of SETI at this time. Do
you really think that I would pay more for a Desk Top that would do less. I
also have two (2) Dell computer with a 2.4 GHz and 512 L2 cache that only
perform one (1) unit of SETI at a time.
This computer that is having problems only started after a Hard Drive crash
and a new factory Hard Drive was installed by your contracted service
person. It was performing two (2) unit of SETI at a time and it does have 2
GB of L2 cache. Regardless if you know about SETI they are still computer
programs and this computer was purchased from Dell Computer Corporation to
give me a better return for my time computing SETI programs.
Do you really think I would purchase an more expensive Desk Top Computer
that will perform less than an inexpensive one. Really think about it...
would I buy a 1.86 single processor computer today when I can get more for
my money with a dual 2.8. This is a Intel(R) Core(TM)2CPU 6300 @ 1.86
processor meaning two complete separate processors, not some mirror
processors. Something is wrong with this computer and I expect Dell
Computer Corporation to do something about it.
If this connection can't solve the problem perhaps sending this problem to a
higher authority is in order. Of course I am also aware of the warranty
program of Dell Computer Corporation and I am able to follow thru with all
my rights under this warranty.
