Copying a DVD
While trying to copy a DVD I got the following message:-
"Your recording device does not support writing to DVD media. This option is not available with your current recorder".
My drive is called 'DVD/CD-RW DriveE. What does the above message mean?
Regards chooky.

Why don't you look up the model of your drive in device manager and post that, so I know what you have.

It would appear on the little information given that you have a DVD read only. You have the ability to burn CDR's but not DVD's. You will have to upgrade your system to DVD burner. They also have the ability to burn CDR's as well. They are cheap and normally run around 35 dollars from most online suppliers.

Agree. "It would appear" that way. But I've run into situations where people thought they had a combo drive only to find they actually did have a DVD burner. Just yesterday, in fact.

Ok, that's what we suspected. Your drive can read and write CDs, but it can only read, not burn, DVDs. You would need to add a DVD burner in order to burn DVDs. What you need is an IDE drive, not SATA. For example, this Philips drive should work fine. As you can see, they're not real expensive and very easy to install.
Let me know if you have any further questions.

Hi Osprey, Thanks for your comments. My Device Manager tells me the CD/DVD drive is as follows:- SONY CDRWDVD CRX310EE. Does this help?
