crashed computer
My friend has a Dell Dimension 4550. Her computer got a lot of viruses on it and some idiot tech person that she hired locally to fix it ended up crashing it, after which he tried to fix the problem by installing DOS 6.22 on it after which he decided he couldn't fix it (because he has reformatted the system). I am trying to help her so could someone tell me how I would go about getting the CD-ROM drive to work under DOS so that I can reinstall the operating system from her install disks. I would really appreciate it.

Tried to install DOS 6.22, huh?

That guy gives idiots a bad reputation!!
The reinstall guide for that system is here:
http://support.dell.com/SoftwareReinstallGuide/Results.aspx?CatID=0&OSID=47&SysID=DIM_PNT_P4_4550&_ctl69.x=36&_ctl69.y=13
That system will boot directly from the Windows XP disc, by going into system setup and setting the first boot device to ATAPI CD-ROM.
If you have further questions, please post in the hard drive or Windows XP forums, which are probably more appropriate for your issue.
