D0100: I/O error (05/2C/04) - Read Error - cannot read from blank area on the cd.
Since a few days my LG CD-RW CED-8120B is not functioning properly anymore. I get repeatingly errorcodes like this:
"D0100: I/O-fout (05/2C/04) - Read Error - cannot read from blank area on the cd" The files to write are skipped.
Sometimes the process looks good, until closing:
"T0100: I/O-fout (04/09/00) - error CD-recorder - error trackvolgorde"
"T7118: TrackWriter-fout - Opdracht opnieuw uitvoeren is mislukt"
"T7118: TrackWriter-fout - Opdracht opnieuw uitvoeren is mislukt"
It's not that it's not writing, when i write a lot of files tot a new, emtpty cd, everything is OK.
When i write 1 small file to a written, but open cd, it's OK
When i try to write 1 big (well, big.....17Mb) to a written, but open cd, it goes wrong.
I still run Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4.02d_D5, Windows Me. Nothing has changed on the system in the days before the problem occurred.
Now i know this is old stuff, and i probably should buy me a new CD-RW, but the reason i post my question is that there's just one other entry on this item in the forum and there's no answer to it.

Hi X-Bart,
Do not know where to start my friend, it could be the drive itself, the software, or maybe a driver issue.
I did find the update to version 4.05 here:
http://www.roxio.com/en/support/uk/ecdc/software_updatesv4.jhtml
You might try one of those new cleaning discs on the market. Or, just to cover a driver, very easy, click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 15, article 1.
Have you changed media, tried a different brand?
Best Regards!
God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.

Thx. You've given 3 possabilities, the drive itself, the software, or maybe a driver issue. 2 and 3 are most unlikely. Software is the same for over 4 years, always worked well. Driver idem dito, never been changed. That leaves me with a hardware problem. OK, I'll try the cleaning disk and then, if that doesn't fix it, i'll unscrew the thing and take it apart to clean it. Do'nt know how yet, but "if it's got screws, i can fix it". Give the laser a good shrub with my sparkplugbrush.....get rid of spiders and other creatures.
Have you seen this errorcode before? Or is it just not specific enough? Why's there's just one other entry in this forum with that code; other CD-RW's should get dirty too, shoudn't they?
Section 15 article 1: 1-0-1: How to re-detect Devices in Device Manager ?????? Am I missing the point here?
