The password can only be removed by the user by reinstalling it in the system where it was originally set. If you can't do that, but need the data, there are companies that have the required tools to remove the password, but it's not something you can do yourself.
Try contacting one of the reputable data recovery services -- Gillware, Ontrack, etc. - they should be able to remove the password so you can access the data.
