Dell Inspiron 1300 Diagnostics Error Code

Question

I ran the Diagnostics test (F12) on my Inspiron 1300 and received the following error code and message for the CD R/RW DVD R/RW:  0 F00:2874  OPTICAL DRIVE BIST-SPINDLE TEST FAILED.    Can any one please tell me what this means and what I have to do to fix it?   Thank you.

It really could not be that easy for me, My warranty is no longer valid. Is it something that can not be resolved without replacing?

if you are still within warranty then contact tech support and hopefully they'll replace the drive.

ok, I get you! what problem(s) are you actually experiencing with the drive?

It will show that there is a CD in the drive, but it will not open. Any suggestions?

the error suggests there's a problem with the spindle so when you put a cd in the drive, does it spin when you close the tray?

Yes, it sounds as if it is spinning.
