Dell Precision 490 RAID Configuration Issues
Ok,
So I've just purchased 7 Dell Precision 490 workstations... and they are nice.
However, I'm a little confused with the SATA RAID options in the BIOS.
The AHCI RAID options do not premitt you to configure the RAID array directly, but it appears that you need to use this option in order support NCQ.
The straight RAID option allows me to actually get a Contol-I option to setup the RAID configuration directly.
...and there is one more BIOS option that is something like "SATA if signature is present..." or other.
My issue is this:
When I use the plain RAID option (which I gather manually forces the SATA controller to be a RAID controller)... I notice that LINUX doesn't see the RAID configuration I set for it. (Mirrored, or RAID 1 at his point.)
If I use AHCI, then I can't configure the darn array at all... so that's useless...
...and I suspect that the 3rd option will be the same as AHCI, but I'll just not have NCQ capibilities supported.
How do I configure 2 drives in the Precision 490, under LINUX (Red Hat is what the box came with), to perfrom HARDWARE based mirroring, and ONLY see one drive in the OS?
I want transparent hardware based mirroring of the SATA 0 to SATA 1 under Linux...
Thanks for any help,
Gerhard

Wondering if you had found a solution for this?
Thanks,
