Dim 2400 not seeing additional internal HD, delayed write failed errors

I've been using an additional 80gb internal HD with my PC since I first got it, with no problem. However recently it usually fails to recognise it. When it does see it, I keep getting 'delayed write failed' errors. The drive is full to capacity. Could this be the problem?

Any other solutions would be gratefully received. I really don't know much about how to fix problems like this!

Thank you very much

More likely, the errors are an portent of a failing drive.

Boot, press F12 and load and run the Dell diagnostics - do an extended test on the hard drive(s).

Thanks for your help with this :-)

I ran the diagnostics as you recommended and got this:

Secondary IDE
Drive 0: Lite-on LTN4865 48x MAX - Diagnostics not supported
Drive 1: - No IDE device

Does this mean that the diagnostics won't work with my drive for some reason?
Should I get something like Norton?

There is also another problem with the computer and I wonder if the two are related. I'll post separately about it, but basically it's playing back audio files badly from the primary HD - they stutter like there's not enough memory, paricularly when I have two or more apps running. The primary HD is 33GB and has 13GB of space remaining.

Any further advice would be really much appreciated, thank you xx
