Dimension 4100

Question

I have Dimension 4100 with Windows ME. I tried to download AOL and when it started,my computer went into Safe Mode. I cannot access the start menu or the task bar, all I get is the screen that says Windows has detected a registry/configuration error. Use Scanrec to correct this problem. On this screen it also has:  1. Normal                                              2.Loggen(\BOOTLEG.TxT)                                               3. Safe Mode                                               4.Step-by step configuration. How do I get to Scanrec to correct this problem? And how can I access the Start menu?  Any help will be appreciated.  Thanks!

Before you do that, boot and run the Dell diagnostics CD to ensure the drive is OK.

I tried what you suggested but nothing happened.  I cannot get anywhere, the only screen that comes up is Safe Mode. Have I destroyed everything?  Any more suggestions?
