Dimension 4600 "Process1_initialization_failed" "STOP: 0x0000006b"

Hi there, this is my first time using a forum to ask for help, so please bare with me if I get anything wrong or are a bit slow on things :).

My computer's been acting a bit strange lately - experiencing an error after another.

Here's the whole story:

Im running a Dell Dimension 4600 which i bought around about 3-4 years ago. I don't usually have many errors - even if I do, I managed to somehow fix them. Lately, My computer began to mess up a bit as it showed a blue error screen - "STOP: c0000221 {bad image checksum}" every time I rebooted, which pretty much just locked me out from my account. Somehow, i managed to fix it with the "Recovery Console" - well I thought i did, as it then began to show a "lsass.exe - system error" straight after (yes at boot again).. After a few hours of searching through Google, I was advised by other cases of this to repair install.

Okay, things looked fine by this point but suddenly, the repair setup closed and the computer rebooted - leaving me now with a "Process1_initialization_failed ... STOP: 0x0000006b (0xc000007A, 0x00000008, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)"

Notes:

  • Currently running Windows XP Home Edition SP2, 1GB RAM, 1x 120GB HD.
  • Can't use floppy drive as I dont have floppy disks.
  • CD drive is a little bit faulty (as I believe) so it may not read some CD-roms.
  • I still have the Windows setup CD which came with the computer but since that was a while ago, its only a Windows XP Home Edition SP 1a.
  • No my computer does not have Norton Antivirus or Roxio Installed.
  • The computer never updated before this happened.
  • To save disk space which I desperately needed, I dont think that system restore would have a backup.
  • The computer merely just froze a few times - with nothing responding at all, and then rebooted - then this all happened.

Anyone ever fixed this before or know how to?

I really need access into my account - I have alot of important documents and photo albums which I need asap.

Feel free to ask for any more information and all suggestions welcome.

Sorry if I don't understand fully what your saying (please cut down on some abbriviations?) - I rarely use Windows for advanced stuff.

Hi Flashshark,

 

Well, if you're trying to get at your data quickly then I would suggest "Safe Mode" if you haven't already.  It won't utilize any additional drivers other than those neccessary to get into your profile.  If it still gives you fits then I would take out some memory to make sure your issue isn't related to a bad stick of memory.

 

If your hard drive hasn't been reloaded then you could try hitting "F12" during POST.  That will show the boot menu and you can select diagnostics.  I would allow the system to test everything.

 

If all fails then you could get a USB enclosure for your drive in order to attach it to another system to retrieve your data.

I'll leave the external hard drive carrier for now, I'd much rather just fix this system altogether.

Im currently running a "chkdsk" on windows recovery console - i'll run the diagnostic/utility partition on all after this has finished.

Sorry Flashshark,

 

I mean an external hard drive carrier that you can put your existing hard drive in and connect to another system via USB.

 

You could then attempt to drag n drop your data to another system so that you have back ups before attempting any other steps.

 

I only mention this, because you said that you need to get your data pretty quick.

 

Did you actually boot the diagnostic/utility partition and run the diagnostics there on ALL components?

Thanks for the reply!

I tried everything you suggested, but still - the error screen still appears right after reboot.

By "USB enclosure", do you mean link two computer's together? Or have I misunderstood?

Finished "chkdsk" on Recovery Console - "1 or more" problems found and fixed, so I rebooted and the error still pops up.

 

I also ran the diagnostic/utility partition on all but no errors were found. 

 

Anything you can say about this?

Also, is there any specific tool which I could boot (preferably from USB or CD) to check for file errors in the HD?

 

I solved the "STOP: c0000221 {bad image checksum} The image olecnv32.dll is possibly corrupt..." from before, by replacing the "olecnv32.dll" using the recovery console - is there anyway I can undo it to before this point and run the windows repair setup from here? Anyway I can check if system restore has saved a checkpoint before this point without being able to log into my own account?

Thanks for all the help. 

 

I finaly solved the problem, as I figured out that Windows Vista uses a differen't HD file layout, therefore if I replace my current HD (which wouldn't allow me to boot and install any version of XP) with a Vista setup, it would automatically delete all current windows OS files - replacing them with the Vista OS files. 

Lucky for me too, Vista allows you to only replace the current OS, leaving behind any other files (such as user accounts, program files, etc), saved onto your HD as "Windows.old". 

No Events found!
