Dimensions 8400 hanging
Can anyone explain why my Dimensions 4800 running XP prof. keeps hanging when I leave it for 45 minutes or more and sometimes when I try to switch programs fast. Once it hangs it is impossible to shut down and all attempts to end the programs is useless. The only method is to remove the mains lead. I frequently receive a message that it is dumping memory, whatever that means.
After, when I start up again there is no message saying it needs to scan disk etc. and it loads and runs normally.....until the next hanging...normally once or twice a day.

Hi Dave,
It could be heat related, loose card, cable connection, RAM issues, bad install of XP, a number of things.
This conference deals with CD/DVD devices, open the case, disconnect the IDE cable and power cable from the optical drive(s), re-boot the system. If the problem goes away, then we need to test the drives. If the problem still exists we should be able to rule out the drives. I would suggest you then post your question in the Software-Windows XP conference or Dimension-General Hardware conference
Seasons Greetings !
God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.
