"D:/is not accessible. Incorrect function" error message
If you're experiencing an error message when attempting to read any data CD's; " (drive letter):\is not accessible, incorrect function." it's because of the Easy CD Creator update that you've downloaded.
Had a Dell CS on the line for several hours, he couldn't figure out the problem and was about to have me crash my system and reload MS XP. This won't work because you have to back up all your "document" files or they will be lost. A catch 22 because you can't access or copy to your CD drive because of the "(drive letter): is not accesible, incorrect function" error message you get.
My solution was to restore my system to the date prior to downloading the DirectCD upgrade. Since then everything is back to normal.

Although the System Restore fixed your particular problem, that is not the answer to the problem all the time. Most of the time, if a drive is inaccessable, uninstalling it in the Windows Device Manager and then restarting Windows will fix it.
As far as the Direct CD updates, I don't know of anyone that has had a problem with the latest V5 Roxio updates and the updates have been out for quite a while. If you have the version that came with your Dell then you need the updates for the BASIC version (and you need all the updates, not just the Direct CD update).
I would suggest you download and install the full Basic update, again.

Damage and scratches on the top of the CD, can
result in the entire CD not being accessible any
more.
Typical error messages are;
* d:\ is not accessible (where d:\ is the CD
drive letter)
* Incorrect function.

CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the CD recording
program from Roxio Easy CD Creator is installed
on the computer and the version of the program
is incompatible with Windows XP.
