Disk Cleanup doesn't work
:smileymad: Everytime I initiate a disk cleanup under performance and maintenance, I get a progress bar with 3 green lights but it never completes the task. I have had this problem for about half a year now. Do you have any suggestions as to how to alleviate the problem? I REALLY need
to do a disk cleanup.

Tbone Man,
This could be caused by a corrupt temporary internet file. Try the following and see if it helps
Close all running applications.
Click Start | Run and in the open box type:
%temp%
to open the Temp folder on your computer.
Type Ctrl+A or from the Edit menu click Select All to select all the files, press Delete, then click Yes to the confirmation.
Close Windows Explorer.
Click Start | Settings Control Panel | Internet Options
Select the General tab, then click Delete Files.
Select the "Delete all offline content" check box, then click OK.
Now try running disk cleanup again and see if that helped.

Dell Mel,
So far I have deleted all temporary files but when I click on Start and control panel, I cannot find "Internet Options. Could you please be more specific in your instructions please. I haven't finished following your instructions. Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
Darrell

Tbone Man,
In the left side of the screen when opening control panel click on the link to "Switch to Classic View". You should then see Internet Options in control panel.

Thank you for clearing things up for me. Unfortunately after trying your instructions, I still have the same problem. The other day I talked with a tech person from Dell and they told me to backup my computer and reinstall the operating System. My plans are to buy Acronis True Image 8.0 and also buy a Maxtor 250 Gig External Hard Drive and backup my entire hard drive image. But I have seen other fixes for this problem but I haven't tried them yet. If you have any other suggestions, please let me know what they are. I would rather not have to reinstall my OS. Thank you Dell-Mel.
Sincerely,
Tbone Man

:smileyvery-happy:Dell Mel,
I just went to a windows XP Newsgroup and found a link to fixing my disk cleanup problem
and guess what? It worked! This is definitely GREAT news. But I want to thank you for your suggestions and I will definitely look to you for further inquiries in the future. Incidentally, I dumped 9,000,000 bytes of garbage. Wheeeeee!

:smileyvery-happy: Here is the http address for the fix to disk cleanup hanging.
First delete all temporary files. Then type in this http address into your search bar.

It's easier to use this small utility.
