disk drive

Question

I have an inspiron 6000 which has a nec dvd+rw-6500A disk drive. When I put in a dvd+rw or dvd+r disk I get the disk window telling me that there is no available space on the disk. Shouldn't it see these types of disks? It will reconize cds and cd-rw. Help please.

Windows XP cannot recognize a blank DVD. Windows XP can only
recognize a blank CD as the built-in burning software is for CDs
only. DVD recognition began with Vista. You need third-party
software to utilize blank DVD media.
