check if your hard drive is still detected in BIOS, if not. might as well try to reseat it. if that did not work, then you're in trouble.

try to run diags on the drive and see if it gives you anything. you can also do what infinite_trial suggested and pull out the hard drive and reseat it and see if the bios detects it.

thanks guys for the response.

the bios detects my hard drive and i've reseeded the hard drive however to no success :(

i called dell tech support...they're going to replace the drive since its under warranty

what happened with the diags? did the drive fail?

As naqoyqatsi suggested, it sounds like you need a new HDD.

I just lost my Hitachi 40 GB drive. Same story as always: "A disk read error occured" It is the second time since October 2002. I am far away from home and had to buy a new disk. Bought a Toshiba 80 GB because last time, when my I8200 was under warranty, Dell replaced my dead Hitachi with another Hitachi. I would be fed up with just another Hitachi passing away.

Therefore, I decided to go for Toshiba as I could not find any IMB.

Does anybody has an idea why those Hitachi fellas die so quick? For such a brand like Dell to install such short-lifetime-expentancy hard disk is a shame!
