disk read error

Question

I am having trouble getting my dell dimension 2350 to startup. I get the read disk error message . press contrl,alt and delete. Could you tell me what that means. I don't want to lose what I have so please help. nadine1pm@earthlink.net

Most likely it means your hard drive is failing. Back up IMMEDIATELY what you can't afford to lose - if necessary, put the drive into another system - and then run the Dell diagnostics on the drive. If it fails, replace it.

Hello,   I'm getting the same message but I'm on a Dimension 8250.  How do you try and recover your files.  I can't get the machine passed this point?
