Disk read error

I had a hard drive problem so I formated after deleting all partitions. Now I am getting the following error and would like some help.
Please be constructive without derrogatory remarks.

the message read:

Disk drive 0 see failure

A Disk read error occurred
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

Nothing I do will help. I remove the drive and plug it into another PC and it works no problem.
What did I do wrong and what can I do to repair the problem?

Regards,
Mark

try and do a debug on the hdd. and then install OS again.

this can help u do a debug :

http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kb/en/document?dn=1011054&l=en&langid=1&c=us&cs=&s=gen

just follow the instructions on screen and u will be able to do a debug. that should resolve ur issue.

Try running diagnostics extended test on the hard drive.

When you post, it helps to include the computer model and version of windows.

Bev,

Sorry about that:
Dell Dimension 3000
XP Home

It is a gift my kids received from their grandparents.
Is the diagnostics on the Operating CD that came with it?

Thanks

Diagnostics are not on the OS CD.  Reboot and hit F12.

Hello again,

Just to let you know I ran the diagnostics and the hard drive came up clean, no problems. After trying a few other options I hit F12 again and tried to boot from my CD ROM (the one that came with the PC) and I got a read error, I did the same thing only put the OS CD in the CD writer and it worked. After running the install and putting the drivers back in it seems to be alright. After the kids have it for a bit we will see what happens.

Thanks to all who helped me with this, I greatly appreciate it.
