Double Layer DVD-R's

I just bought double layer DVD-Rs for my burner. I didn't realize until I got home that it says I have to have a DVD-R DL burner. My burner is DVD-R/RW. Is it safe to assume that these will not work in my burner?

Look in the Device Manager and identify the Brand and Model of your drive.

The model of my burner is Philips DVD+-RW DVD8701

The Philips DVD8701 DVDRW Drive is a dual-layer writing drive; however,
it can only write to dual-layer DVD+R media. Try some DVD+R dual-layer
(small quanity). Verbatum is a good brand while Memorex should be
