Drives not recognizing when discs are changed

My two month old XPS-710 does not recognize when a cd has been removed and/or if a new disc is installed.  The only way I can get the drives to register a different disc is to reboot.  This is not as it should be and is a pain when doing something that needs more than one disc.

Any idea on what is going on and how to fix this so the drives register properly?

Since this has not yet been responded to, before someone posts the obvious, here is what I have tried:

I obtained from, Dell's website, the updated driver files specific to my computer and installed them.  The firmware upgrades were satisfactorily performed.

The DVD drive will now sort of show new folders of another disc inserted, however, it also keeps the old stuff from a previous disc showing as well.

The DVD-RW drive still does not recognize when a disc has been changed and shows the files for the first disc installed.

It is STILL A PAIN!

kites0852,

In that 2 months, how long did those drives function? List all the software and/or hardware changes made to the system BEFORE this issue arose.
